        • About ME

Elaine Laster Womack has been employed as a nurse since she was aged nineteen years old and later as a Nurse Practitioner since 1990. Her medical specialty has been in the cardiac (heart) and renal (kidneys) departments, working in the hospital and clinics alongside doctors. She is semi-retired but continues to work part-time for a nephrologist. She is a member of the well-known sorority Delta Sigma Theta INC, an organization that is deeply devoted to rendering community service.

She is married to Friendly Womack, Jr. and is the mother of three lovely professional daughters: Yolonda, Jackie, and Claudia. She also has five wonderful acquired daughters through marriage to her current husband, Friendly, and three from a previous marriage to Claude. She has one grandson, Ashlee, and is actively involved in the care of his daughter and her great-granddaughter, Amaré Olivia, who is now two years old. Elaine has been a Sunday school teacher for the past thirty years, teaching young girls ten to twelve years old at her church of thirty-five years. She has recently served as president of the Health Care Ministry there and has been an active on-duty church nurse during services for the past twenty-plus years. Because of her tumultuous childhood, she has a passion for helping underprivileged and hurting people from all walks of life wherever there is a need. She is dedicated to her profession because it serves as an avenue to give back so much of what was given to her.

"Brilliant! The orderliness of the book confirms to me Elaine Laster Womack is an extraordinary author. As the reader, I felt as though I went through everything with her. This ambitious work is a page-turner, and I could not put it down. It had me hooked through myriads, twists, and twirls. There are secrets within secrets to her success, and every time I need uplifting, I pick this book back up and begin to read."

          - Dr. Tammy Settles MD PhD

"Elaine’s words are healing balms! Her wisdom and gift of storytelling intimately invite us into her world, so we, too, might become free of the strongholds hindering us from living in joy and peace. As a university professor who teaches religious history and womanist healing courses, Elaine’s memoir will become a part of my course recommended reading list."

          - Renee K. Harrison, PhD

Associate Professor of African American and U.S. Religious History, Howard University School of Divinity

"Elaine’s writing is breathtaking. It is authentic, heartfelt, and exemplifies a truth that reveals itself only when your soul is set free. As a licensed therapist for the past 37 years, I am ecstatic about her testimony and revelation of past experiences. Most exciting is her ability to connect the dots from a life of pain to a life of freedom and peace."

          - Jannie Cotton, M.S, LPC

          CEO, Professional Counseling Associates
